PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Department of Social Security and Charities (21 November 1989)

Motion Details

That this House condemns the Government's recent decision to introduce/interpret Department of Social Security Regulations which have led to the imposition of new Scrooge rules concerning individual charities' abilities to give lump sum cash gifts to people of their choice who are in need at Christmas, and other times; asks what justification can be given by Government for legislation which restricts such activities; and further calls on the Government to act immediately and cancel these regulations, to enable such charities to give freely to those who fit their criteria for help.
