PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
IAN STILLMAN (15 January 2002)
Motion Details
That this House notes the appeal by Ian Stillman against his conviction for possession of drugs has been turned down; recognises his achievements in working for the deaf in India; notes that he has been sentenced to imprisonment for 10 years; further notes that the police investigation and the majority of the trial was conducted in Hindi with no translation facilities being made; is concerned that the way in which Mr Stillman was arrested, imprisoned and tried fell short of the high standards expected of India; and calls upon the Prime Minister to make the strongest representations possible to the Indian Government as a matter of urgency.
