PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS IN INTERMEDIATE CARE (28 November 2001)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the decision outlined in the document, Investment and reform for NHS staff - taking forward the NHS Plan, that physiotherapists are very much in demand for implementation of the NHS Plan; recognises that currently demand for physiotherapists outstrips supply and that vacancy rates for physiotherapists are alarmingly high; welcomes the Government's announcement regarding a proposed rise in the number of physiotherapists of 59 per cent. from 15,600 to 24,800 between 2000 and 2009, to address this demand; recognises that physiotherapy has more applications per place than any other degree course in the UK, yet there are currently insufficient student clinical places to complete training; urges the Government to address that fact; and also urges the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to make a commitment to an increase in physiotherapy numbers in the NHS in those regions.
