PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
REDUNDANCY PAY FOR VOLEX STAFF AT LEIGH (6 March 2002)
Motion Details
That this House notes with sadness the plans of Volex Powercords to make 220 people redundant in Leigh by ending its long tradition of manufacturing in the town; pays tribute to the local work-force many of whom have given long service to the company and contributed greatly to its expansion and profitability; is therefore troubled by reports that Leigh employees are being offered an inferior redundancy package than employees also facing redundancy at Castlebar in the Republic of Ireland; and calls on Volex to recognise its moral responsibility to treat all employees fairly and the loyal service it has received from Leigh people by offering them the same financial package as employees in Ireland.
