PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LADY THATCHER'S STATUE AND THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF THE FALKLAND ISLANDS (28 January 2002)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the huge significance to British politics of Lady Thatcher's premiership from 1979 to 1990, both as the first female British Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and for her success in rescuing the British economy; further recognises her place in history for her resolute defence of freedom during the Cold War years and her strength, courage and determination in standing up to the illegal invasion of the Falkland Islands in 1982; and calls upon the Works of Art Committee to place the recently completed 8ft statue of her in the Members' Lobby during 2002 to mark the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands.
