PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
REGULATION OF CHILDMINDERS (23 January 2002)
Motion Details
That this House notes the recent conviction for manslaughter of Linda Bayfield, the childminder responsible for the tragic death of eight-month-old Joshua Osborne whilst in her care; welcomes the NSPCC's recent three-point campaign to ensure that all complaints against childminders should be thoroughly investigated and if they are judged unsafe they should be removed from the Ofsted list; believes that if a childminder remains on the register, details of actions taken against them must be made available to parents; further believes that childminders and nannies should never hit or shake a child, even with parental permission; and calls on the Government to introduce these measures forthwith.
