PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
NIALL QUINN (21 January 2002)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates the Republic of Ireland and Sunderland striker, Niall Quinn for his selfless decision to donate the proceeds of his forthcoming testimonial match to children's hospitals in Dublin and the North East of England, whilst encouraging the sponsorship of Children in Africa and Asia; anticipates that the Sunderland Stadium of Light will be packed to capacity to celebrate the career of that fine sportsman for the match between Ireland and Sunderland, thus ensuring that his target of providing ú1 million for charity is reached; wishes him well when he finally retires from soccer, whilst hoping that in the meantime he enjoys a successful World Cup this summer with his country and another free-scoring spell with his club; and believes that his statement 'all I'm doing is putting a little bit back into life, I realise I've received more than most' sets the highest of standards for others inside and outside of football.
