PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MORATORIUM ON REFERENDA FOR DIRECTLY ELECTED MAYORS (14 May 2002)

Motion Details

That this House calls for a moratorium on further referenda to create directly elected mayors; believes that the outcome of a number of the recent mayoral elections could undermine the good governance of the councils concerned; and considers that future referenda should not be held until the success or otherwise of this experiment can be effectively judged.
