PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
POLICE IN BARNET (23 April 2002)

Motion Details

That this House congratulates Barnet Borough Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Sue Akers and her officers on the success of Operation Trafalgar involving 70 Barnet officers in a targeted police operation resulting in 178 arrests, 225 crimes cleared up, recovery of firearms, knives and drugs and a three per cent. reduction in burglary; welcomes the extra allocation of 50 police officers to Barnet; condemns the Conservative members of the Greater London Authority, including the Member for Barnet and Camden, who despite their protestations on crime, for a second year running proposed and voted for an alternative Metropolitan Police budget which would have resulted in reductions in funding for London's police, resulting in serious cuts; welcomes the fact that the Metropolitan Police training centre at Hendon is bursting at the seams with new recruits; and looks forward to continuing improvements in police officer numbers with the Labour-led Metropolitan Police Authority.
