PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
DIRECT PAYMENT (25 November 2004)

Motion Details

That this House condemns the way in which the Government is introducing direct payment; observes that thousands of pensioners feel they are being coerced into having their pension or benefits paid into a bank or building society account rather than a Post Office Card Account; believes that real distress is being caused to older people by the Government's inflexible approach and that many pensioners are confused by the new system, especially the use of pin pads; regrets that the Government has been so slow to announce the details of the Exceptions Service; and recognises that many pensioners would prefer to continue to use their pension book.
