PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ECONOMICALLY INACTIVE YOUNG PEOPLE (25 November 2004)
Motion Details
That this House notes with concern that the number of economically inactive people of working age has risen by over 120,000 in the last year alone; is particularly disturbed that there are more than a million young people who are neither working nor in full-time education or training and that this number continues to rise; recognises that the New Deal has failed to tackle the problem of economic inactivity; notes that up to June only 38 per cent. of leavers from the New Deal for Young People left for unsubsidised employment; calls on the Government to take urgent action to tackle this problem; and urges the Government to replace the New Deal with more effective proposals.
