PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SCOPE'S SPEAK FOR YOURSELF REPORT (13 February 2001)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates the disability organisation Scope on its new report 'Speak for Yourself'; acknowledges that communication is fundamental for everybody in society; notes that the 'Speak for Yourself' report has found that people unable to speak are too often unable to have access to the communication devices that are essential for them to access education, training, work or communicate with their closest friends and family; further notes that given that half the people surveyed did not have any statutory funding for their communication aids; and therefore calls upon the Government to set up a central fund to pay for communication devices, as part of a wider review of these vital services, and make sure that people receive the equipment and training they so clearly need.
