PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP FOR LONDON UNDERGROUND (24 November 1999)
Motion Details
That this House notes the desperate need for investment in London's Underground; notes that the Government's planned public private partnership is up to two years behind schedule; further notes that, particularly following the Paddington rail crash, Londoners overwhelmingly reject the idea of allowing Railtrack to run one third of the Underground; believes that safety on the Underground is paramount; notes the broad consensus among academics, experts and many mayoral candidates for a not-for-profit public interest company or trust to run the Underground; and urges the Government to investigate this option fully, seriously and urgently as an alternative to the public private partnership.
