PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HEALTH SERVICE COMMISSIONERS (AMENDMENT) BILL (14 February 2000)

Motion Details

That this House commends the Health Service Commissioners (Amendment) Bill to close the current loophole in the Health Service Commission Act 1993 which allows doctors to retire in order to avoid investigation by the Ombudsman; further notes with concern that currently doctors who retire from the National Health Service in order to avoid investigation can continue to practice as a locum or privately; and calls on the Government to support the Bill, which will help strengthen the accountability of the medical profession.
