PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONDUCT OF THE HONOURABLE MEMBER FOR NORTH CORNWALL (27 January 2000)
Motion Details
That this House notes with surprise the claimed support of the honourable Member for North Cornwall for Agreed Programme Motions (Official Report, 25th January, column 555), particularly because he agreed a Programme Motion for the Criminal Justice (Terrorism and Conspiracy) Bill on 2nd September 1998, then reneged on the agreement in mid-debate and ended up failing to vote at all in the consequent division; and further recalls and notes his comments at the time (Official Report, 2nd September 1998, column 728): 'I am sincerely sorry if I have in any way led the Right honourable Lady (the Member for Derby South) to expect my full support for the whole motion ... I shall withdraw my name from the motion.'; and expresses the hope that if the honourable Member agrees Programme Motions in future, he will abide by them.
