PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SENATOR PINOCHET (12 January 2000)
Motion Details
That this House notes with profound regret that if Senator Pinochet were to return to Chile he is unlikely ever to stand trial for the crimes against humanity committed under his regime; notes that this will be felt most of all by people like Sergio Requina-Rueda, an MSF member, who was detained and tortured under the Pinochet regime and who was not extended the same opportunity of medical advice and support that has now been given to Senator Pinochet; calls for the medical report to be made available to the relevant Spanish judicial authorities; and urges all those involved to continue to do everything within their power to ensure that the evidence of those who suffered under the Pinochet regime, including that of Sergio Requina-Rueda, is one day heard in a court of law.
