PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TOTAL FIGHTING (28 February 2000)
Motion Details
That this House expresses its considerable concern regarding the health and safety of those participating in the sport of Total Fighting; notes that this sport, which originated in Japan and is beginning to gain popularity in this country, gives each participant considerably more licence to attack their opponents compared with other combat sports such as boxing, permitting both kicking, punching, wrestling and choking; believes that the potential for serious injury upon participants is considerably greater; and therefore calls upon the Government to introduce independent monitoring and regulation of the sport, the independent medical testing of the effects of the sport upon participants and a review of the powers afforded to local authorities to license it.
