Broadcasting Bill and the Gaelic Language (13 December 1989)
Motion Details
That this House regrets that the Broadcasting Bill presently contains no reference to broadcasting in Gaelic; notes that the Welsh language does receive attention; notes that the commitment by the Home Secretary on 13th June that proposals on Gaelic would be announced before the Bill was published; welcomes the Home Office statement of 7th December that proposals on Gaelic are being considered for later introduction; and urges the Government to support the proposal by Comunn na Gaidhlig for a Gaelic Broadcasting Council, and to publish its proposals with alacrity.
