PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Broadcasting Bill and the Gaelic Language (13 December 1989)

Motion Details

That this House regrets that the Broadcasting Bill presently contains no reference to broadcasting in Gaelic; notes that the Welsh language does receive attention; notes that the commitment by the Home Secretary on 13th June that proposals on Gaelic would be announced before the Bill was published; welcomes the Home Office statement of 7th December that proposals on Gaelic are being considered for later introduction; and urges the Government to support the proposal by Comunn na Gaidhlig for a Gaelic Broadcasting Council, and to publish its proposals with alacrity.
