PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
OUTSTANDING PLANNING APPLICATIONS FOR COMBINED HEAT AND POWER STATIONS (10 May 2000)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the benefits of combined heat and power generation in making UK industry more competitive, reducing greenhouse emissions and providing secure, diverse and sustainable supplies of energy; welcomes the Government's target to achieve at least 10 GWe of CHP capacity by 2010, and the Secretary of State's confirmation in his recent statement on energy policy that the Government continues to support CHP and in particular 'will expect developers to be able to show that they have explored opportunities to use it'; welcomes the efforts of developers who are already exploring industry's needs and identifying opportunities to use CHP in exactly the way commended by the Government; and urges the Secretary of State to make early decisions on the CHP applications currently under consideration in his Department, in the interests of UK industrial competitiveness and combating climate change.
