PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
State Enrolled Nurses (6 December 1989)
Motion Details
That this House notes with deep concern the rate at which long-serving state enrolled nurses are leaving the nursing profession; observes that there are only 1,500 places available on courses which would enable them to convert their qualification to one acceptable for first-level nursing; regrets that there are over 50,000 nurses competing for these few places; and urges the Secretary of State to encourage health authorities to give top priority to the provision of additional conversion courses in order that the valuable experience of state enrolled nurses is not lost to the National Health Service at a time of staff shortages.
