BANGLADESH (16 December 1998)
Motion Details
That this House commends the people of Bangladesh for their courage and resilience in facing the worst floods in living memory; appreciates the extensive efforts made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Government in dealing with the crisis; welcomes the co-operation and support of the international community given to the Government and people of Bangladesh during the floods and for post-flood rehabilitation; marks the 27th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh; welcomes developments in Bangladesh demonstrating the restoration of the rule of law and the institutionalisation of democracy; and calls upon the British Government and other members of the international community to continue to support the Bangladeshi government in areas of economic and social development as well as the promotion of regional co-operation in South Asia.
