PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HOME ENERGY EFFICIENCY SCHEME (15 December 1998)

Motion Details

That this House expresses concern that under the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme there are only sufficient resources to offer one single insulation measure to households on social security benefits; is concerned that this prevents the HEES from delivering optimum benefit to low income households; notes that those over 60 years whose lives are at greater risk during the winter months receive only 25 per cent. of the maximum grant available; urges Her Majesty's Government to increase the range of measures obtainable by each applicant, to tackle the source of fuel poverty and encourage energy efficiency; and further calls on the Government to raise the maximum level of HEES grants per household to ú600.
