PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CARE OF OLDER PEOPLE IN THE NHS (10 December 1998)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the report 'Not Because They Are Old', commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health from the Health Advisory Service; notes that the report reveals serious issues of discrimination and lack of care for older people in the NHS; agrees with Age Concern that the Department of Health can do more to respond to the Report's findings; urges the government to publish a clear and adequately-resourced action plan to address the deficiencies highlighted in the HAS report; and calls on the government to publicise how the performance of health authorities and trusts will be monitored in implementing the plan and to explain how the NHS will enter the new millennium meeting 'the basics - such as clean dry sheets and proper standards and provision of food and drink' (Right Honourable Member for Holborn and St Pancras, 2nd November 1998) of older people in hospital.
