PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Vagrancy Act (5 December 1989)

Motion Details

That this House, deeply conscious of the plight of the homeless, and aware of the desperate poverty of some people of which homelessness is both cause and effect, is concerned by the number of prosecutions being brought under the Vagrancy Act against both those who are homeless and those forced to beg; and calls for both an end to these prosecutions which make criminals of the natural victims of society, and the urgent repeal of sections 3 and 4 of the archaic Vagrancy Act of 1834, and section 64 of the Metropolitan Police Act of 1839.
