INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT (30 November 1998)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the signing of the statute for the International Criminal Court by Her Majesty's Government on 30th November; congratulates the Government on the leading role it took in the drawing up of this treaty; recognises the importance of a permanent international criminal court to complement the efforts of national courts in punishing those responsible for genocide crimes against humanity and war crimes; and endorses the statement made by the 120 countries which voted at the diplomatic conference in July in Rome to establish the court, that 'the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole must not go unpunished and their effective prosecution must be ensured by taking measures at the national level and by enhancing international cooperation.
