PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HEALTH CARE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY (24 November 1998)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the ill health caused by fuel poverty and poor housing; believes that treating the problem of cold and damp housing through improving the energy efficiency of homes rather than repeatedly treating the illnesses it causes is better for patients' quality of life; further believes such an approach could save money spent on treating preventable cold-related illness; therefore welcomes the work that health authorities and others have done in areas such as Birmingham and Cornwall, where health authorities have made money available to improve homes, thereby enabling the occupants to keep warm and healthy; and further supports the Health Care and Energy Efficiency Bill presented last year by a cross-party group of honourable Members which would require all health authorities to consider setting up such schemes and hopes time can be found to take forward such ideas in this session of Parliament.
