PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Cambodia and Vietnam (4 December 1989)
Motion Details
That this House is appalled at Her Majesty's Government's continued support for the seating of the Khymer Rouge-controlled so-called Coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea at the United Nations; believes that such support for the perpetrators of the Killing Fields will prolong the agony of the people of war-torn Cambodia; is further outraged at the lack of a proper policy of aid from the industrialised countries to Cambodia and Vietnam, countries whose people deserve assistance more than most because of the devastation caused by years of imperialist war; notes that Her Majesty's Government has the nerve to class Vietnamese boat people as economic refugees and plans to forcibly repatriate them as if the wars waged by the West and the embargo on trade and aid had nothing to do with their plight; and firmly believes that the fundamental incapability of capitalism and Stalinism to organise world society on a rational and harmonious basis necessitates now, more than ever, genuine socialism where all peoples can bring up their children in peace, harmony and prosperity.
