PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
FREEDOM TO ROAM (24 November 1998)
Motion Details
That this House believes that the Millennium should be marked by fulfilling the promise set out in Labour's 1994 policy statement, In Trust for Tomorrow, which pledges that Labour's commitment to the environment will be backed up with legally enforceable environmental rights including a right of access to common land, open country, mountain and moorland and that this would be a fitting tribute to the memory of the late John Smith who believed passionately in the people's right to enjoy the finest landscape and countryside in Britain.
