PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
WILDLIFE CHARTER AND WILDLIFE BILL (24 November 1998)
Motion Details
That this House is concerned at the continuing loss of the country's wildlife and so reaffirms its support for new legislation based on the Wildlife Charter launched by 22 nature conservation organisations and supported by 302 honourable Members in the last Session who signed Early Day Motion Number 559; supports, therefore, the Wildlife Bill, introduced in the last Session by the honourable Member for Brighton, Pavilion and a cross party group of honourable Members, which gives a legislative framework to the points stated in the Charter; acknowledges the commitment in the Government's manifesto to provide 'greater protection for wildlife'; and so reiterates its view stated in EDM 559 in the last Session which 'urges the Government to introduce broad based wildlife legislation which puts into law the principles called for by the broad alliance of organisations behind the Wildlife Charter'.
