PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
RELEASE OF SEAN KELLY (11 March 1999)

Motion Details

That this House, noting the provisions in the Belfast Agreement for the release of terrorist prisoners which stipulate that account be taken of the seriousness of the offences for which the person was convicted and the need to protect the community, views with deep concern the decision to grant an early release date in July 2000 to the IRA prisoner Sean Kelly who was convicted of nine murders and sentenced to nine life terms in prison for his part in the bombing of Frizzells Fish Shop on the Shankill Road in Belfast on 23rd October 1993 in which nine innocent people died; notes that Sean Kelly will have served only seven years in prison at the proposed date of his release which is less than one year for each murder that he committed; and supports the campaign by Michelle Williamson whose mother and father were murdered by Sean Kelly to have his release halted.
