PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
EUROPEAN CHILDREN'S TRUST (9 March 1999)

Motion Details

That this House recognises that the orphanage crisis in Eastern and Central Europe is symptomatic of the collapse of the social infrastructure and that it threatens the future stability of the region; commends the work of the European Children's Trust in providing maternal centres in Romania, with accommodation, training and counselling for young women who are at risk of leaving their babies in an orphanage; and calls on the Secretary of State for International Development to give every support possible to the 'Know-how Fund' to enable them to help the very poorest families in Eastern and Central Europe from being forced to give up their children.
