PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
RECOGNITION OF SIKHS AS A DISTINCT ETHNIC CATEGORY (2 March 1999)
Motion Details
That this House believes in the importance of the statistical accuracy of the 10 yearly population census; notes that the information gathered is used to determine the distribution of scarce resources between disparate geographic and ethnic communities; further notes that many local authorities collect ethnicity data on the significant minority communities that live within their jurisdiction; and urges the Office for National Statistics to revise the ethnicity categories for the 2001 census and include Sikhs as a distinct ethnic group.
