PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
GIBRALTAR (11 February 1999)

Motion Details

That this House deplores the actions of the Spanish Government in blockading Gibraltar in flagrant contravention of European Union law, threatening to prevent Gibraltar driving licence holders from entering Spain and threatening to refuse Gibraltar-bound civil airliners the right to overfly Spanish airspace; calls on the Government to make clear its determination to protect Gibraltar's territorial waters and to provide the necessary naval support to prevent further unacceptable incursions by Spanish fishermen; and further calls on the Government to act more vigorously in defence of Gibraltar's political and economic interests and to reaffirm its support for the people of Gibraltar in their firm stand against these attempts to force Gibraltar to accept Spanish sovereignty.
