PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
HEAVILY INDEBTED POOR COUNTRIES INITIATIVE REVIEW (10 February 1999)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the success of the Chancellor of the Exchequer in securing a fundamental review of the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries initiative; believes that this review represents a valuable opportunity for a full evaluation of the role and effectiveness of current debt relief policies; and urges the Government to ensure that the review includes a thorough examination of the part that debt relief can play in achieving broader poverty reduction objectives, in particular the OECD target of halving world poverty by the year 2015.
