DAILY JANG NEWSPAPER PAKISTAN (9 February 1999)

Motion Details

That this House expresses its grave concern over the efforts of the Pakistan Government to suppress the Daily Jang newspaper through harassment and intimidation of journalists, its confiscation and witholding of newsprint despite the ruling of the Pakistan Supreme Court, and the freezing of bank accounts; believes such actions by the Pakistan Government to be an attack on the freedom of the Pakistan press to report objectively on news events and political affairs in Pakistan; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to defend press freedom by raising these concerns with the Pakistan Government as a matter of urgency.
