PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
COVENTRY BUILDING SOCIETY (4 February 1999)
Motion Details
That this House calls on the Government to tighten legislation to make it impossible for unscrupulous carpetbaggers to destroy such worthy institutions as Coventry Building Society; notes that the sole purpose of the building society is to assist its members; fully supports the efforts of Coventry Building Society to retain its mutual status and continue to offer its excellent services to its 700,000 savings account holders and 110,000 borrowers; and calls for the number of members required to force a vote in building societies' AGMs to be increased to 1000, instead of the present 50, which leaves them open to unscrupulous people interested only in short-term profit.
