PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
OXFAM FAST AND FAIR TRADE CAMPAIGN (20 January 1999)

That this House congratulates Oxfam on its Fast and Fair Trade Campaign; further congratulates those who took part in the fast to help raise funds for Oxfam's projects overseas and highlight the importance of fair trade; recognises the importance of the Fair Trade Initiative for small banana farmers in the Windward Islands in safeguarding their livelihood; and urges the Government to continue to support the work of the farmers associations representing the Windward Islands as they develop the production and marketing of bananas which will carry the Fair Trade mark.
