PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONTRACEPTIVE ADVICE IN SCHOOLS (18 January 1999)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the innovative work being done by Viv Gouch, the school nurse at Hayesfield Upper School; notes that her weekly clinic session enables pupils at the school to seek confidential advice and be referred to nearby GPs for emergency contraception when necessary; notes that the number of girls in the school becoming pregnant has reduced significantly since this initiative began; and recommends to the Government that this model be replicated in other schools especially where there are high pregnancy rates among under 16s.
