PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ELECTION LAW AND THE BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY (18 May 1999)
Motion Details
That this House deplores the unlawful action of the racist and fascist British National Party in once again breaching the Representation of the People Act by providing false addresses on nomination papers for at least three of their candidates in the forthcoming European elections; calls upon the Home Secretary to investigate these deliberate attempts to subvert the democratic process in order to qualify for a party political broadcast and free post facilities at public expense; believes that any planned party political broadcasts should be postponed pending the outcome of any such investigation; and further believes that election law should be reformed to allow for a proper examination of all candidates' nomination papers to prevent further abuses.
