ELECTORAL PROCEDURE (21 April 1999)
Motion Details
That this House recognises that the electoral law relating to procedure in local elections has not changed since the Ballot Act 1872; supports the Local Government Associations's call for urgent reform of antiquated procedures to enable people to vote at more convenient locations and times; calls for the Ministerial Working Party set up by the Home Office to implement changes to electoral procedure in time for next year's local government elections; and supports the innovative work of all local authorities to encourage voter turnout and recognises that changes to legislation will help increase turnout and renew local democracy.
