PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
RACISM IN CRICKET (14 April 1999)
Motion Details
That this House notes the recent comments made by the editor of Wisden Cricketers' Almanac on the presence of racism in cricket; and calls upon the Minister for Sport to encourage the England and Wales Cricket Board to respond positively to the proposals made by the campaign 'Hit Racism for Six' that include the commissioning of in-depth, nation-wide research to determine the scale and nature of the problem, the convening of a national forum of all those concerned with black and Asian cricket to encourage constructive dialogue to identify and address the problem, the drawing-up of a development plan for cricket in the inner cities, with special reference to black and Asian participation, and the banning of racist abuse at all cricket grounds.
