MIDWIFERY BOARD (14 April 1999)
Motion Details
That this House recognises that in order to maintain midwifery standards, ensure proper and suitable midwifery education and training, and to provide means for partnership between midwives and users of the service, any future regulatory framework must include a midwifery board whose duties should include determining the conditions of admission to training as a midwife, determining the content and standard of training to be undertaken before registration as a midwife and of further training undertaken by those already registered as midwives, providing advice for midwives on standards of professional conduct in accordance with developing practice and user need, making rules to ensure high standards of midwifery practice including supervision of midwives, and overseeing of and participating in professional conduct proceedings for midwives.
