PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CHARGES FOR USE OF CASH POINTS (20 July 1999)
Motion Details
That this House regrets the decision of several banks and building societies to introduce charges for the use of cash points in the Link system; notes that some banks are proposing to charge seven or eight times the cost to themselves of making the transaction; deplores bank secrecy over costs; is concerned that flat rate charges will disadvantage low income customers in particular; and calls on the Office of Fair Trading and the Government (Cruickshank) inquiry team investigating the banks to investigate what appears to be flagrant profiteering by high street banks.
