PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CRIMINAL DEFENCE SERVICE (14 July 1999)
Motion Details
That this House insists that all state-funded criminal defence services should not be provided by private sector lawyers and calls for salaried lawyers to be employed to provide such services; believes that a mixed economy of private sector and salaried lawyers would provide an effective criminal defence service and quality and value for money competition for the private sector; and calls on the Government to re-introduce such measures at the earliest opportunities.
