ENERGY EFFICIENCY AWARDS (14 July 1999)
Motion Details
That this House notes that the Home Energy Conservation Act 1995 mandates local authorities to take measures to improve the energy efficiency levels of their housing stock; congratulates the 141 local authorities who between them have won ú3.74 million under the Energy Saving Trust's Energy Efficiency HEC Action awards scheme aimed at encouraging innovation and dissemination in this area; notes that in promoting energy efficiency these local authorities are making an important contribution towards achieving the United Kingdom's objective of a 12.5 per cent. reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2010; notes the contribution that energy efficiency improvements have made to alleviating fuel poverty in a number of local authorities; welcomes the fact that this investment will attract another ú25 million from partners; and congratulates the Energy Saving Trust on this initiative and the others it runs to encourage energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty in the United Kingdom.
