PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Funding of the Arts by Westminster City Council (8 February 1990)

Motion Details

That this House condemns the Conservative-controlled Westminster City Council for reducing its grants to the English National Opera and the English National Ballet as well as for offering only standstill grants to the ICA and the Photographer's Gallery; and calls on Westminster City Council to behave responsibly and accept that a great Capital City like London must pour more money into culture and the arts if it is to retain the respect of the rest of the civilised world.
