FUTURE OF THE LONDON FREEDOM PASS (No. 2) (27 June 1999)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the concessions made by the Government during the Report Stage of the Greater London Authority Bill on 4th May, Official Report, column 771; notes that the Government intends to amend the Bill in the Lords to update the London Freedom Pass scheme and that the statutory reserve scheme start and finish times will be brought up to date and the arrangements for determining costs will be clarified; further notes the Government's plan to give the boroughs powers to set up a statutory joint committee dealing with concessionary fares, which will have the option of taking decisions on the basis of qualified majority voting; regrets that the Government remains unwilling to amend the reserve scheme to provide for mainline rail services; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to ensure that the legislative opportunity to update the reserve scheme in the interests of disabled people and senior citizens is not missed.
