PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Royal Shakespeare Company (8 February 1990)

Motion Details

That this House notes with regret the decision taken by the Royal Shakespeare Company to close the Barbican and Pit theatres for four months from next November in the face of a deficit of ú3 million; recognises that this has been forced on the company by the miserable failure of the Government to fund the Arts Council adequately; expresses concern that other national companies such as the Royal Opera House have comparable deficits; and calls upon the Government to bring forward immediate supplementary grants to tackle these deficits.
