PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
GOVERNMENT POLICY ON WIDOWS (23 June 1999)

Motion Details

That this House expresses its concern that widows are worse off under this Government; notes that the Government is continuing to implement policies which will increase means testing, remove income from widows only six months after bereavement, and increase their tax bill; further notes that the cumulative effect of the Government's policies combines to remove over half a billion pounds from widows; welcomes the attempt to provide equality within the system for widowers but notes that this could have been introduced on a cost neutral basis.
