PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Testing of Children at Three Years (8 February 1990)
Motion Details
That this House condemns the principles and practices of the company Tutoria Educational Services, P.O. Box 17, Yarm, Cleveland in marketing their assessment and testing services to nursery schools and playgroups and encouraging nursery school teachers and playgroup leaders to promote and sell testing for children from the age of three years in preparation for the assessment and testing incorporated in the national curriculum; considers that to encourage nursery teachers, nursery nurses, playgroup leaders and parents to believe that it is necessary to employ outside agencies to test, tutor and measure the ability of children at three years of age specifically for the demands of the national curriculum is damaging to the educational development of young children; and calls upon the Government to do all that it can to dissuade parents from thinking that testing at three years is appropriate preparation for the national curriculum.
